Michelin-starred chef at new Dorset restaurant

Looking for an exciting new eaterie to fire up your taste-buds this summer? Then make the short journey to Bournemouth, where you’ll find sun, sea and a Michelin-starred chef.

Celebrating Poundbury recently attended the launch of Bournemouth’s newest restaurant No.34, which officially opened its doors to the public this month. Situated in the stylish surrounds of the Orchid Hotel on Gervis Road, the restaurant is ideally located within easy strolling distance of the beach and attractions of the town centre.

No.34 boasts a high quality menu created by celebrated Michelin-starred Head Chef Jean Gysemans who is known for his creative use of seasonal and local ingredients. The evening kicked off in style with an elegant summer-themed drinks reception where guests were served the delicious bespoke No.34 Bellini that was perfectly paired with music from local rising star Lee Rasdall-Dove.

Catering for a wide range of dietary requirements, dishes included starters of home-made local game terrine and a local Dorset crab dish, aptly-named ‘1,000 Leaves of Crab’.

Delicious entrees comprised of a fresh Fregola Sarda with artichokes, tomatoes, peas, broad beans, basil and pecorino cheese and a sumptuous slow roast belly of pork served with cavalo nero and apple and cider sauce.

To finish, a range of deserts included an elegant blackcurrant and hibiscus cheesecake and a strawberry and rhubarb compote served with pistachio sponge and pistachio ice cream.

In addition, guests sampled a selection of exclusive wines from the extensive wine list, chosen to perfectly accompany the first class food.

The simple yet stylish menu was complemented by the striking restaurant interior itself. Designed by Sue Freeman, a London based interior designer responsible for creating interiors for 5 Star restaurants across the world.

Head Chef Jean Gysemans said: “I’m immensely proud to lead the team of chefs at No.34. Dorset offers an exciting range of local produce such as fresh seafood, vegetables, cheeses and meats which I am proud to use in our kitchen. I hope patrons will enjoy sampling our menu as much as we did creating it.”

The restaurant is open seven days a week from 6.30pm to 9.30pm and is open for lunch between 12pm and 2.30pm each day, with car parking available onsite.
