One of the freshest additions to Poundbury is independent menswear store Clath, which opened its doors in early August.
Already proving popular, the shop on Lower Blakemere Road has been supplying fashionistas with high-quality clothing and footwear.
With a lovely airy and open-plan layout, shop owner Aaron Watkins sells classic and contemporary pieces for men who want something stylish to brighten up their wardrobe.
“I love the concept of Poundbury and I’ve discovered more of it over the last few years. It’s a really cool place, so different and I like the vibe. You also get a good mix of independent stores,” he says.
With a long career working in men’s fashion, Aaron is keeping the independent spirit alive and bringing a unique direction to his own venture.
Even the name of the shop has a special meaning, as Aaron explains:“The name itself derives from the old English word cloth. The idea is we sell premium menswear with brands that have a rich tradition for quality.
Having lived and worked in Dorset all his life, Aaron lives with his family in Weymouth. While deciding to base Clath in Poundbury has proved to have many advantages.
“We’ve had great feedback since we’ve opened. Now more people know that in Poundbury you can park right outside the shop. Usually the problem on a traditional high street is a lack of parking and finding somewhere long enough to stay and shop. Thankfully we’ve created a relaxed shopping experience here.”
Aaron is clearly knowledgeable and passionate about men’s fashion. Customers love the inspiring premium brands such as YMC, Edwin, Wood Wood, Red Wing, Sebago, Rains and many more handpicked by him.
There’s also exciting plans afoot for Clath including the recent addition of knitwear from legendary UK brand, John Smedley.
The opening times are Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 5pm.
