Local charity, the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust provides care without any charge to patients and their families. December sees a busy month of festive-themed fundraising events in the community that should raise support to run their essential services.
Christmas is a time for thinking of friends and family. As such, the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust invite you to join them remembering loved ones and absent friends with a special Light up a Life service that runs at various Dorset locations throughout the next few weeks.
This year they have seven trees, each of which will be illuminated with hundreds of tiny white lights, each light representing treasured memories. You can dedicate a light on these trees in memory of loved ones, friends or colleagues regardless of whether the loss is recent, some time ago, or if the person being remembered was cared for by their staff.
The Light up a Life service runs at the Orchard Park Garden Centre in Gillingham on 1 December from 6.30 -7.30pm, Holme for Gardens in Wareham on 4 December from 4-6pm, Joseph Weld Hospice in Dorchester on 6 December from 6.30-7.30pm, Hope Square in Weymouth on 11 December from 4.30-5.30pm, Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens on 13 December from 4.30-6pm and St Michael’s Church in Lyme Regis on 18 December from 4-6pm.
Also this month, the Weldmar’s Santa Special train service to Salisbury Christmas Market departs from Weymouth on Saturday, 3 December and Sunday, 11 December. Calling at many local stations, passengers can visit Santa on board the train and receive a gift. The offer is only available for tickets purchased from Weldmar Hospicecare either via the Weldmar website or on the day via the volunteers at the station or on board the train.
The man himself makes a visit to Poundbury on 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 22 December in aid of Weldmar Hospicecare, when Father Christmas appears at Poundbury Gardens, which should please children and parents alike. He will be available from 11am until 4pm in his grotto and will cost just £6 per child, including a present.
There’s more seasonal fun with Weldmar Hospicecare’s sixth Family Santa Fun Run on Sunday, 4 December. This two-mile fun run starts at Dorchester Rugby Club at 11am.
This is an event that everyone can get involved in, whether you walk, jog or run and a warm up session promises to get you off to a running start.
There are also several events that have been organised on behalf of Weldmar Hospicecare taking place this month.
These include a charity back waxing night at the Black Dog Inn, Weymouth on 10 December and a Grand Christmas Dance with live band Replay supported by Let’s Dance (dancers) on Wednesday, 28 December at the Weymouth Pavilion.
